One of the questions that our sales reps at Honda of Murfreesboro receive frequently is about the differences between the CR-V and the Passport. The CR-V has almost 25 years of history impressing drivers. As a compact crossover SUV, it sits immediately below the Passport in the current Honda trim line. The Passport is a midsize crossover SUV that was introduced a few years before the CR-V. While these vehicles are neighbors in the current lineup and share many features, their significant differences could impact your purchase plans.
The CR-V and the Passport are both offered in four trim levels. For 2020, the CR-V is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbo engine, and this engine is linked to a continuously variable transmission with a sport mode. The CR-V is offered in a hybrid variant as an alternative. In comparison, the 2020 Passport is only available with a V6 engine across its four trim levels. This engine produces 280 horsepower, and it is linked to a nine-speed auto transmission. Shift-by-wire and paddle shifters are standard across all of the Passport's trims. The CR-V and the Passport are also equipped with hill start assist, eco assist, and other mechanical features.
Throughout the exterior, the CR-V and the Passport show off their unique approach to styling. The sporty CR-V is smaller across most dimensions. The bold curvature at the front of the hood is accented by the sharp flare of the LED headlights. The side windows flow into a point at the rear to enhance the CR-Vs sporty look. In comparison, the Passport has an upright stance with a shorter, level hood. Because of the hood's shape, the LED headlights have a modest flow as they fade toward the front fenders. The side windows maintain their height from front to rear. Both of these crossover SUVs may have powered side mirrors with heating elements, tinted windows, a roof spoiler, a power liftgate, and other shared equipment.
The 2020 Honda CR-V and the Honda Passport have excellent features across the trim lines to ensure that drivers and passengers are comfortable across the miles. Some of the features that are common in all or select trims for these two models are smartphone integration, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, leather material, a navigation system, an auto climate control system, a wireless phone charger, USB charging ports and other gear.
